TSC CEO Nancy Macharia on the spot: A member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has raised concerns about the growing trend of Kisii politicians. The politicians have been attending social gatherings with employment letters from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
A UDA legislator was distributing employment letters
The MP voiced these concerns following a clash between ODM and United Democratic Alliance (UDA) legislators during a fundraiser in Bomachoge Borabu Constituency. Silvanus Osoro, the 2022-2027 National Assembly Chief Whip, was in attendance.
According to the MP, the scuffle erupted when a UDA colleague began distributing employment letters from TSC and Kenya Forestry Services. This action allegedly sparked tensions among the attendees, leading to the altercation. People were openly scrambling for the employment letters at the event.

Kitutu Chache South MP spilled the beans
Kitutu Chache South Member of Parliament, Anthony Kibagendi, announced that Parliament would address the issue. He vowed to raise tough questions regarding how certain MPs obtained employment letters for specific government departments.
“During the event, one UDA MP started dishing TSC employment letters and Kenya Forestry Services employment letters. We are going to ask hard questions in Parliament about how some MPs can be walking around with employment letters for certain government departments. They are using them to belittle other MPs in their constituencies/regions,” Hon Kibagendi wrote on his Facebook account.
This was not an isolated case
This incident is not isolated, as similar instances of leaders distributing appointment letters during public events have occurred in the past.
Last year, MP Silvanus Osoro claimed to have received 100 TSC appointment letters for his constituency. The National Assembly Majority Whip disclosed that letters in his possession were earmarked for South Mugirango residents.
Additionally, Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu distributed TSC appointment letters during a funeral in the Kisii area. In that event, a young man received an appointment letter after pleading for assistance.
TSC has lost credibility
The involvement of Members of Parliament (MPs) in the recruitment of teachers has raised questions. It has put pressure on the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to clarify their role. TSC CEO Nancy Macharia has emphasized that MPs have no authority in the hiring process. She has stated that TSC is solely in charge of managing recruitment at all levels.
Last year, Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba accused politicians of interfering with TSC recruitment processes to favor their supporters. He stressed the importance of TSC maintaining professionalism and ensuring equal distribution of job positions nationwide.
Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi echoed similar sentiments. He accused politicians aligned with Kenya Kwanza of monopolizing government positions to reward their allies.
