DCI detectives to reveal the cause of the fire that killed pupils at Hillside Endarasha: Kenyan detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are probing the cause of a tragic fire that claimed the lives of several pupils at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri County. 18 pupils have been confirmed dead while 27 others are receiving treatment in various hospitals.
Kenyans in shock
The blaze, which swept through the dormitory late at night, has left the community in shock and mourning. More than 70 pupils are still unaccounted for. The dormitory housed 156 pupils of ages ranging between 8 and 14.
Investigators are combing through the scene for clues to determine the cause of the fire. They are interviewing witnesses, including teachers, students, and security staff, to piece together the events leading up to the tragedy.
Forensic experts are also collecting samples from the site to identify any possible accelerants or signs of foul play.
The fire started in one of the dormitory rooms
Initial reports suggest that the fire may have started in one of the dormitory rooms. It quickly spread due to the flammable materials used in the building’s construction.
However, authorities have not ruled out other possibilities, such as electrical faults or even arson. The DCI has assured the public that no stone will be left unturned in the quest for answers. They will make the findings public.
Parents demand a thorough investigation
Parents, guardians, and the local community are demanding a thorough investigation. They are now mourning the loss of young lives and pray for the recovery of those injured. The Ministry of Education has expressed its condolences and pledged to support the investigation. The PS for Basic Education Belio Kipsang has urged all schools to review their safety protocols to prevent future tragedies.
The government has promised swift action once the cause of the fire is established. In the meantime, counseling services are being provided to the affected families and students to help them cope with the traumatic experience.
DCI appeals for more information
The investigation is ongoing, and the DCI has appealed to anyone with information that could assist in solving the case to come forward. The tragic incident at Hillside Endarasha Academy has raised concerns about school safety and the need for stricter regulations to protect students.
