The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is working with the Ministry of Labor, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other stakeholders to secure international employment for Kenyan teachers.
This effort began in February to address the surplus of teachers in Kenya. Calvin Anyuor, TSC Director Legal, noted the benefits of placing these teachers overseas.
“We have started engaging key stakeholders to export the teaching resource because we have a surplus of teachers in the country,” Anyuor stated.
TSC’s collaboration with other ministries
TSC is collaborating with various ministries to enable Kenyan teachers to teach English in Germany. Anyuor stressed the importance of maintaining educational quality, questioning the standards for teachers being sent abroad.

He highlighted the need for these teachers to meet global educational demands. Anyuor criticized the lower academic standards for teaching compared to other professions like medicine or law. This is despite the high expectations for teachers to produce top-notch professionals such as engineers and pilots.
This new initiative underscores Kenya’s commitment to leveraging its human resources for global opportunities. It will boost the country’s socio-economic growth and address the domestic surplus of teachers.
