Newly Promoted Teachers, TSC will revoke your promotion if you don’t do this

Newly Promoted Teachers, TSC will revoke your promotion if you don’t do this: The Teachers Service Commission of Kenya promoted 36,505 teachers recently. Of the 36,300, about 50 percent were primary school teachers. The rest were post-primary education teachers. TSC promoted about 12,600 teachers from Grade C3 (T-Scale 8) to Grade C4 (T-Scale 9).

The government of Kenya gave TSC KES 1 billion to facilitate the promotion of teachers. More than 100,000 turned up for interviews. However, TSC could not absorb all of them because of financial constraints.

The promotion letters are out

The newly promoted teachers are still collecting their letters of promotion from TSC sub-county offices. TSC decentralized the distribution of letters to sub-counties.

All teachers that were successful in the December 2023 and January 2024 interviews have been collecting their letters since the last week of March 2024.

Why TSC may revoke your promotion

The commission has warned the newly promoted teachers that acceptance of their promotion has a strict timeline. Those who do not accept the offer for promotion will lose it within thirty days.

“This offer for promotion shall lapse if not taken within thirty days from the date of this letter in accordance with Regulation 81 of the Code of Regulations for Teachers (2015),” reads part of the letter.

This means that any promoted teacher(s) that will not collect their letter of promotion before the lapse of the 30-day window will be deemed to have rejected their promotion.

The process of collecting the letter(s) of promotion

Collecting the letter(s) of promotion is a rather straightforward process. All the newly promoted teachers will collect their letters from their TSC sub-county offices. TSC requires them to fill a black notebook as evidence that they have collected their letter(s)

Some of the details that the human resource officers at the TSC sub-county offices require include:

  1. Teacher’s name and TSC number
  2. Current station
  3. The new station (if transferred). TSC transferred all teachers that were promoted to administrative positions. It, however, retained all teachers that were promoted to regular grades in their current stations.
  4. Name of the collector
  5. Valid signature.

After collecting the promotion letter, the HR department at the TSC sub-county has generated a list of promoted teachers. Each newly promoted teacher must sign against their name and TSC number as evidence that they have accepted the offer for promotion. If the teacher does not fill out the black book and sign the generated form, TSC might revoke their promotion with the assumption that the teacher(s) have rejected the promotion offer.
