46,000 JSS Teachers to be absorbed on PnP terms despite budget cuts, Ruto’s man reveals

46,000 JSS Teachers to be absorbed on PnP terms despite budget cuts: Junior secondary school teachers’ employment on permanent terms will remain untouched. The same applies to fertilizer subsidies, which will also remain untouched by recent budget cuts. This is according to Ndindi Nyoro, chairperson of the Budget and Appropriations Committee and Kiharu MP.

Safeguarding crucial expenditures

The young legislature confirmed this adjustment despite the Finance Bill, 2024, not becoming law. He was speaking at Kiharu Technical and Vocational College while issuing bursaries for secondary and tertiary students. Nyoro assured that the Ruto administration is protecting important expenditures.

He emphasized that the 46,000 junior secondary school teachers currently interning will be transitioned to permanent and pensionable terms. This will ensure fair compensation for all teachers employed by the Teachers Service Commission.

KES 10 billion fertilizer subsidy

Nyoro underscored the importance of agriculture. He affirmed that subsidised fertiliser will continue to be available for farmers cultivating both food and cash crops.

He announced the committee’s plan to allocate Sh10 billion for subsidised fertiliser in the upcoming budget adjustments.

“I also want to assure all Kenyan farmers that we will include Sh10 billion for subsidised fertiliser as the Budget committee adjusts the budget next week,” he said.

Responding to public concerns, Kenyan leaders have opted to work within available funds. The government plans to reduce the proposed budget by around Sh177 billion.

This move demonstrates their commitment to prioritizing essential services and addressing the needs of the public.

Public Assurance

Nyoro’s statements aim to calm fears over potential disruptions in vital sectors. By ensuring teacher employment and agricultural support remain intact; the government seeks to maintain stability and public confidence during financial adjustments.
