The updated 2024 school calendar applies to pre-primary, primary, junior schools, senior schools and teachers’ training colleges. Term One 2024 kicked off on January 8, 2024. In the 8th week of the term, which was from February 26, 2024, to March 4, 2024, all the basic education institutions proceeded to half term.
Many schools have started their end-of-term examinations, and the term is about to end. The term will end on Friday, April 5, 2024. This will bring the 13-week term to an end. Kenyan schools will then proceed to a 3-week holiday period from April 8, 2024, to April 26, 2024.
Term Two 2024
The official opening date for Term Two 2024 is April 29, 2024. The term will run for 14 weeks. It will end on August 2, 2024. The half term dates will be from June 20, 2024, to June 23, 2024. It will be a short half term of just three days. The government is trying to reduce the half term days so as to recover the time that was lost during the COVID-19 disruptions.
August 2024 holiday
The August 2024 holiday will be equally short, as it will run for only 3 weeks. It will run from August 5, 2024, to August 23, 2024. This period will seem very short for those who will participate in co-curricular activities. For instance, those that will qualify for Music Festivals will proceed to Eldoret form August 2, 2024 to August 14, 2024. And for those whose items will be identified for the East Africa Music Dance and Drama festival, they will proceed to Jinja, Uganda from August 18, 2024 to August 24, 2024.
The same will apply for ball games at all levels of education. Kisii County will host the Term Two ball games for junior schools and senior secondary schools. The East Africa games will also take place in Uganda from August 15, 2024 to August 25, 2024.
Term Three 2024
Term Three will only run for 9 weeks from August 26, 2024 to October 25, 2024. There will be no half-term for basic education institutions in third term. The candidates for various national exams will be busy preparing for them.
National examinations
It is important to note that there will be no KCPE this year. The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) is only preparing for KPSEA, KILEA assessment, and KCSE.
The KPSEA and KILEA assessments will run for four days, from October 28, 2024, to October 31, 2024.
KCSE exams will run from November 4, 2024, to November 22, 2024. They will run for three weeks.
December holidays
The December holidays will run for ten (10) weeks. They will run from October 28, 2024, to January 3, 2025. Have a look at the table below.
