TSC resolves promotion crisis. It is a welcome relief to thousands of teachers as TSC has come out to address teachers’ complains on the recent promotion saga. The teachers’ employer promoted 36505 teachers to various job groups.

Of the more than 100,000 teachers that applied, only 36505 were lucky to land slots in higher job groups. A majority of them were promoted from Grade C3 to C4. As usual, the unlucky ones had to complain because they felt aggrieved.
Some teachers even claimed that the 724-page list had some TSC numbers of teachers who have since retired or are deceased. This could be true, but it is very normal for that to happen because interviews took place two months earlier.
TSC has urged the aggrieved teachers to be patient, as they are still processing promotion letters. The government has systems that can detect such anomalies, and no deceased teacher will receive a promotion letter. Promotion letters will be dispatched through the various TSC county and sub-county directors.
The promoted teachers will receive notifications through text messages instructing them to pick up their letters from their nearest TSC offices. Others will receive the letters directly from their heads of institutions.

There has been a lot of tension among the teaching fraternity because of the TSC promotion interview results. Some teachers who have stagnated in the same grades for more than twenty years missed the list. But they should not worry, as TSC is yet to distribute the letters, according to an insider who did not wish to be quoted.
The teachers’ unions have been up in arms, demanding that TSC promote all the teachers who applied. However, they are also aware that those demands are impractical. Promoting teachers requires a huge budget, which the government has not allocated to them.
The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) advised their members to launch complaints in writing. They will then follow up with TSC to investigate why very deserving teachers missed promotion slots.
