SAD NEWS: Young Police Officer Fatally Shoots His Lover, Commits Suicide

There is definitely some very bad spirit that is attacking many Kenyan couples. Cases of spouses killing each other in marriages and relationships have become so commonplace and something needs to be done.

A 28-year-old police officer attached to Njoro Police Station has killed his 29-year-old girlfriend by spraying her with over 15 bullets. The young man identified as Police Constable Bernard Sivo assaulted his lover Mary Nyambura and fractured her right leg.

Mary was then admitted at Njoro Sub County Hospital for treatment. It was while she was receiving treatment that Bernard entered the hospital with an AK-47 rifle and shot her severally. Eye witnesses counted over 15 bullets.

Unfortunately she succumbed to the injuries. The report was made by the hospital administrator Mr. Timoth Njoroge at Njoro Police Station under OB. No. 2/23/08/2021.

On leaving the hospital, Bernard went berserk and started shooting aimlessly at the police station hence endangering his fellow officers. When his colleagues tried to disarm him in peace, he turned the gun to self and shot himself on the chin.

The bullet pierced through his face and got out through the forehead, killing him instantly.

The gory scene was visited by the Sub County Commander, DCIO, OCS Njoro and a team of officers from scene of crime in Nakuru Town.

Their bodies were moved to Egerton University Mortuary awaiting autopsy from the government pathologist.  Bernard’s AK 47 rifle S/NO. 4912292 was recovered from the scene together with a magazine of 11 rounds of 7.62mm bullets. The case is now under active investigation.

Many of these sad cases involve police officers. The police fraternity deserves more and better than only counseling to fight depression. There’s a lot that is happening in the National Police Service.

Is it neglect that has culminated into depression and eventual death by suicide? The Kenyan government, the political class and the NPS leadership have all decided to sit and watch.
