The cabinet secretary for interior security, Fred Matiang’i has touched the hearts of many Kenyans when he paid the full university fees for Lavinia Mumbe.
The 19-year-old scored a c+ in her KCSE exams and was scheduled to join Laikipia University to pursue Kiswahili and communication.
Her mother is a housewife while her father does odd jobs in Kayole. She went to see senator Sakaja to ask for help but she didn’t find him.
On her way home down beaten and dejected, she bumped into an administration police officer who advised her to see the interior cs.
They went there with her mum and talked to the secretary who told them to leave their contacts behind.
They called them a few days later and informed the young girl that the CS was touched by her story and wanted to help.
They met him in his office and he paid her four-year full fee to Laikipia University and encouraged her to work hard so that she will grow to help her parents and siblings.
Matiang’i also gave them some money for upkeep and promised to continue helping their family. Doctor Fred Matiang’i is known for his firmness when discharging his duties as the cabinet secretary for internal security but he is also a human being with emotions.
Politicians opposed to his style of leadership have tried so hard to portray him as a ruthless dictator who finds happiness in hurting others.
Leaders allied to the deputy president view him as the main man that has been working very hard to undermine the deputy president despite being his boss.
We all know that Matiang’i is acting under the instructions given by the president and instead of attacking the CS, these politicians should directly address their concerns with the president.
Matiang’i is a father and a husband who goes through various life struggles just like any other Kenyan.
