What Homabay Gen Z Activists Did to Late Albert Ojwang During Burial

The Homabay Gen Z activists have given Late Albert Ojwang a befitting send off. In a show of unity, thousands of Gen Z’s matched to the late secondary school teacher’s home and took over the proceedings. A majority of them were students from Mawego National Polytechnic.

Thousands of youths marched to Mawego Police Station and torched it. They believe the police played a huge role in his brutal murder. They called out the police officers as they chanted “Justice for Ojwang” and “Stop Killing us” slogans.

The young angry crowd even confronted political leaders and barred them from attending the function.

“This is not a wedding!” many Gen Z activists were heard shouting. Notably, the Gen Z’s told off Homabay Women Representative Atieno Bensouda.

The most touching act by activists and his friends was how they dressed his coffin. The beautiful coffin was dressed by covering it with the Kenyan flag and that of Manchester United. Albert Ojwang was a staunch supporter of the English Premier League team. The flags mirror both his deep patriotism as a Kenyan and love for Manchester United.

The 31-year old man left behind a beautiful wife and a son. Albert was an only son to his deeply hurt father. His murder case is now a matter of international concern. Many young people are now demanding immediate resignation of the deputy inspector general of police, Eliud Lagat. Consequently, the DIG has since “stepped aside”, an action that many human rights activists find controversial.

DIG Eliud Lagat ordered his arrest

Eliud Lagat is the one that ordered for the young man to be arrested and taken to Nairobi’s Central Police Station where he met his untimely death. He was fatally assaulted by other cellmates, according to Constable James Mukhwana. The cellmates were paid KES 2000 to “discipline him”. Mukhwana was the first police officer arrested over the death of Albert Ojwang.
