TSC Requirements for one to be deployed to teach in a TTC

TSC Requirements for one to be deployed to teach in a TTC: the Kenyan government has mandated TSC to post teachers to teachers’ training colleges (TTCs). The commission appoints competent teachers to equip Kenyan teacher trainees with the relevant pedagogical skills that they need to serve the nation.

There are over 35 public teachers’ training colleges in Kenya. Others are private, but the government has to give them accreditation for them to admit students. But for the sake of this article, we are going to emphasize on public TTCs.

Minimum Requirements

For TSC to post a teacher to teach in a TTC, the teacher must have teaching experience of at least three (3) years. The entry level for a TTC teacher in Kenya is Lecturer I, Salary T-Scale 8. That is the equivalent of a secondary teacher I who teaches in secondary schools. They actually earn similar perks.

On top of that, the teacher must also portray a high degree of integrity and professionalism. Remember, a teachers’ training college is a discipline oriented environment. Persons with drinking problems cannot be deployed to teach in a TTC.

A TTC lecturer must also meet the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the constitution of Kenya. They must also score highly in Teacher Performance Appraisal and Development (TPAD). A favourable TPAD score will guarantee you a slot of teaching in a TTC.

How to apply

TSC normally announces the vacant positions online and on print media. If you meet all the requirements, you can then apply online using the link: https://teachersonline.tsc.go.ke/. But sometimes TSC can post the direct link on its official website for qualified people to submit their applications directly.

Remember, the commission does not charge any money for employment, recruitment, transfer, promotion and pension services. TSC’s service delivery charter is available on the official website, https://www.tsc.go.ke/. So do not be conned by unscrupulous people who claim to work on behalf of the commission.

Transfer from secondary school to TTC

This is also possible when you follow the correct channels. The principals of TTCs can recommend to the commission about a teacher that they want TSC to transfer to their institution. TSC effects such transfers from the headquarters. Some teachers have successfully transferred their services to TTCs before.

The commission emphasizes deploying the best tutors to TTCs, especially with the CBC system of education.
