Moses Kuria, the Member of Parliament for Gatundu South Constituency, has disclosed why he has been hospitalized at Karen Hospital for nearly two weeks.
The outspoken legislature has been in the hospital since September 27. He startled many when he revealed he was bedridden because of serious burns from his electric blanket. Yes hustlers, there is something called an electric blanket!
Moses Kuria spent hours yesterday at the theater as physicians cleaned and treated her wounds. Many leaders including ODM party leader Raila Odinga have visited him to wish him a quicker recovery.
“God is gracious. I’ve just successfully exited the theater! We worship His Name,” he posted on Twitter shortly after the complicated surgery.
The MP claimed he got the burns while warming up with the blanket a few weeks ago. He did not even notice the serious burns for a while and didn’t seek care right away. One of his legs was most affected.
For those who might not know, an electric Blanket is a hefty, strong blanket with an internally integrated wiring system. It provides warmth and heat via coil wires.
Cost of electric blankets
In Kenya, the blanket ranges in price from roughly KES 4,000 to KES 20,000 and is used to warm up quickly before being unplugged. People should not use it for an extended period. It can be deadly if one does not use it with care.
One of the most serious concerns about electric blankets is that, if not properly cared for and used, they might cause a fire. You can only imagine if that happens while you are asleep.
There have been many reports of blankets catching fire and scorching their victims in different parts of the world.
Experts believe electric blankets cause an average of 5,000 residential fires worldwide each year. What causes many of these incidents are manufacturer errors, improperly fitted wiring, or faulty control devices.
These are rich people’s problems, aren’t they?
