The Multibillion Deal That Allegedly Caused A Fallout Between Uhuru And Ruto

Uhuru and Ruto were blossom buddies between 2013 and 2017. The two politicians enjoyed a cordial relationship that allowed them to clinch power.

President Uhuru even pledged support for Ruto’s presidency in 2022, but things went south in 2018.

Kenyans have been wondering what happened between the two politicians whose working chemistry was unrivalled.

There have been many speculations that the March 2018 handshake between president Uhuru and Raila Odinga played a part.

This is not the case because, according to a publication by Kenya daily post

, the fallout between Uhuru and Ruto is economic.

Ruto felt betrayed by a multibillion shillings deal that he could have benefitted only to be boxed out by Uhuru and Gideon Moi.

The two gentlemen clashed on which financial business to choose in rolling out Safaricom’s multibillion-dollar Fuliza program.

According to insiders, Uhuru and Ruto advised that the Fuliza agreement, which allows Mpesa subscribers to gain an overdraft .

Despite an earlier agreement that KCB would be part of the deal in Safaricom’s program, Ruto reportedly fronted KCB.

Uhuru and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi allegedly fronted the NCBA, which subsequently grabbed the business.

Ruto lost billions of shillings in commissions that he would have received if they had included KCB in the fuliza initiative.

They had duped Ruto into believing he was a part of the arrangement throughout the 2017 electioneering period.

If everything went according to plan, Safaricom, KCB, and NCBA Bank would have launched a payments interface on M-Pesa .

This rolled was to allow clients to pre-authorize transactions for eventual payment.

Ruto devoted all of his attention to campaigning for Uhuru’s re-election in 2017, hoping to secure billions from the Fuliza agreement.

He allegedly planned to used to fund his presidential ambitions in 2022.
