Raila’s Man Set To Take Over As The Nairobi County Deputy Governor

The high court of Kenya recently upheld the appointment of Ann Kananu as the Governor of Nairobi after that decision was challenged in court by the disgraced Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko.

Kananu is now officially the governor of the county of Nairobi and the process of appointing her deputy has begun in earnest. According to the former digital communications officer in the statehouse, Dennis Itumbi, Jubilee is set to reward Raila with that seat as a sign of goodwill and friendship in their marriage.

Raila’s man Fred Rabongo who is an astute businessman is set to take over as the deputy governor of Nairobi. Rabongo had previously shown interest in the Homabay senatorial seat but lost. Since the 2018 handshake between Kenya’s political heavyweights, the country has experienced peace and calmness of political tension which had reached a fever pitch.

President Uhuru Kenyatta decided to call a truce between him and the former Prime Minister Raila Amollo Odinga to get a chance to govern, legitimize his presidency and secure his legacy as the fourth president of the Republic of Kenya.

Having the handshake has achieved mixed results because as much as it helped to achieve political stability and peace, it burnt other bridges that had already been built between the president and his deputy Willliam Ruto.

Ruto and his allies felt entitled to benefit from the presidency alone at the expense of the opposition supporters given the kind of effort they had to put up to withstand the onslaught from the opposition heavyweight Raila Odinga. Many critics of the handshake believe that Uhuru could not have beaten Odinga were it not for Ruto.

The handshake is set to culminate into a political pact between Jubilee and ODM. This was jointly announced by the general secretaries of both parties. Raphael Tuju and Edwin Sifuna earlier this month announced that they are working to formalize their relationship with a view of forming a formidable coalition that will win next year’s general election.

Jubilee has worked with ODM on various occasions like for instance the ousting of corrupt governors like Ferdinand Waititu, Mike Sonko, and a couple of members of parliament that are openly supporting the Tanga Tanga political faction that subscribes to the ideologies of the deputy president.
