Meru county is part of Mt. Kenya and the top presidential candidates having been making forays to win the vote rich region.
Deputy President William Ruto today embarked on a two-day tour of Meru County.
There was an intriguing scene at Githongo market in Central Imenti Constituency today, November 15th.
This happened when he made a brief stop to advertise his presidential quest and his UDA party to an excited throng.
After receiving a warm welcome, the DP, who was in the company of several allies from the Mt. Kenya region and other parts of the country.
He held a successful rally at Githongo market and other parts of Meru county.
The DP then had some good news for the people, or rather, hustlers of the market.
He declared before leaving for the next rally that he had carried one million shillings for them to boost their hustles.
He did this just like he has been doing in his rallies across the country.
Ruto began by stating, ” foremost, I would want to state that “Your boss informed me that there are hustlers in this market.
Mama mbogas, small-scale traders, bodaboda riders, watu wa kupasua kuni, and others are among those who require help.

I’ve also been told that you have a chairperson who has organized everything.”
“What is the chairperson’s name?” he inquired.
Then he learned that the chairperson’s name is Peter Koome, from the people in his immediate vicinity.
The DP declared to the public, “I’m giving Peter Koome one million shillings for him to distribute among those hustlers in this area.”
This garnered applause from his audience.”nikikupatia hapa ni sawa?” he then asked Peter.
Peter declined, most likely because he was afraid that the money would cause public disorder, as it had in other regions of the country.
The DP then closed his rally by informing the crowd that “Peter amesema nisimpee hapa, ananifuata atawaletea.”
