Kalonzo and Mudavadi Chased in Ukambani after Chaotic Campaign

On Sunday 11th, Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi, and Moses Wetangula had to run for their lives. This is after being assaulted with stones during a campaign event in Makueni County.

The principals of the One Kenya Alliance (OKA), along with Cyrus Jirongo, were in the county to campaign for Eshio Mwaiwa, who is running for the Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat for Nguu/Masumba ward in the upcoming October 14 by-election.

The seat became vacant following the untimely demise of the late Harrison Ngui in a car accident earlier this year.

The three launched off their campaign in Mukuyuni, Kaiti constituency. Here they drew a massive audience. Kenya is going into a serious campaign period and we expect such scenes.

Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and their counterparts had to seek cover after landing in Kikumini for their second layover, when they encountered an angry mob.

A crowd screaming “Timothy Maneno, Timothy Maneno, Timothy Maneno!” pursued them.

Many political analysts associate Maneno with Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana. He has widespread support in the Kikumini area. The people of Makueni believe Prof Kibwana to be in the 2022 presidential race.

The people of Makueni County believe he is best suited to be their flag bearer. This is because of the good work that he has done in his County.

The conflict led the former NASA principals to flee without conducting a rally in the region, as stones flew by, hurting some of their campaign’s officials.

Because of this, it is now clear that Kalonzo does not have total control over the Kamba votes. In 2013 and 2017, he marshaled all the Kamba votes when they voted for Raila Odinga almost to the last man.

In Ukambani politics, the Nguu/Masumba ward by-election is turning out to be a battle for domination between Kalonzo and Makueni governor Kibwana.

Kenyans will know what will happen soon when political realignments will take centre stage.
