Former president Mwai Kibaki missed the funeral ceremony of his younger brother Samuel Githinji Kibaki.
Former President Mwai Kibaki has been conspicuously missing from the limelight since he retired from active politics.
Mwai Kibaki was last seen in public during the funeral of the late powerful cabinet secretary Nicholas Biwott.
The former president has been battling chronic illnesses related to old age.
Ngari Gituku, Kibaki’s personal assistant, refused to comment on the retiring President’s absence from the low-key gathering at their Thunguri residence.
“Do you have any idea how many brothers or stepbrothers Kibaki has?”
“How many members of your family have the same surname?” Ngari remained tight-lipped on the whereabouts of the former leader of the Party of National Unity (PNU).
The United Nations named him special envoy for Water in Africa Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2016.
Jimmy Kibaki, his son, however, represented the family at Samuel Githinji’s burial.
Former Othaya MP Mary Wambui and Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi were among the dignitaries that attended the burial. Governor Muriithi is the nephew of Mwai Kibaki, Kenya’s previous president.
Muriithi, Jimmy Kibaki, and Mary Wambui all spoke to the mourners as they honored Samuel Githinji’s life. The deceased was born in the year 1938, and he is 7 years younger.
According to a poster displayed during the event, Githinji died on Thursday, October 21. Despite this, his family has remained tight-lipped about the cause of his death.
