Basic Salary and Allowances for TSC Chief Principals: Chief Principals in Kenya, rated D5 on the T-Scale 15, hold the highest positions in educational institutions. The Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for 2021–2025 was a good one for all administrators. The government finalized the CBA last year. It introduced significant changes to the wage structure for these educational leaders.

The salary structure for chief principals

The basic salary structure for Chief Principals is categorized under Grade D5 (T-Scale 15). It commences at 131,380 Kenyan Shillings. Grade D5 teachers, often burdened with extensive responsibilities. That is why TSC awards them a hardship payment of KES 38,100 to acknowledge the additional challenges they face in their positions.

Commuter Allowance for chief principals

The Commuter Allowance aims to alleviate the financial strain associated with daily travel to and from work. It accounts for various commuting expenses. This includes fuel costs, public transportation fares, and vehicle maintenance.

Grade D5 teachers receive a commuter allowance of 16,000 Kenyan Shillings. TSC recognizes the dedication of teachers who may undertake long commutes to reach their educational institutions.

Annual leave allowance for chief principals

Teachers dedicate themselves intensively throughout the academic year. That is why TSC pays them an Annual Leave Allowance. It ensures they receive compensation for their efforts. This provision acknowledges the importance of rest and recuperation for teachers.

Grade D5 teachers are entitled to an annual leave allowance of KES 10,000. The allowance encourages them to take well-deserved breaks to recharge before returning to their students with renewed energy and enthusiasm.

Disability Guide Allowance for Grade D5

The Disability Guide Allowance recognizes the significant role played by teachers specializing in Special Needs Education (SNE). They cater to the diverse needs of children with disabilities. This allowance underscores the importance of their work.

Grade D5 teachers engaged in SNE receive a monthly payment of 20,000 Kenyan Shillings. This is essential for attracting and retaining them.

D5 is the highest grade a teacher can attain in Kenya. It is therefore the most lucrative.
