How to Check TSC Registration Status in 2024

A Kenyan teacher should always know their TSC registration status. For one to be considered a teacher anywhere in Kenya, they need a TSC number. This basically means that you have to be legally registered by the Teachers Service Commission of Kenya. This is the body that is mandated to manage the humongous teachers’ register in Kenya.

Unlike in the past, when the process was purely manual, currently all teachers must register through the TSC online portal. It is through the same portal that one can check their registration status. In this article, we are going to take you through some quick steps of checking your registration status if you are a teacher in Kenya.

Step 1: Access the TSC online portal

The first step is to access the TSC online portal through the official web address www.tsc.go.ke. Once you land on the TSC page, navigate to the “online services” subsection. You can access this using a smartphone, tablet, laptop or even a desktop PC as long as you have access to the internet.

Step 2: Click on the “teachers online” tab in the drop down menu

Once you click on the “online services” section, you will access a drop-down menu with various tabs. Click on one that is written “teachers online’. This will redirect you to a new site, https://teachersonline.tsc.go.ke/

Step 3: Click on the “Registration Status” link

At the top of the landing page on the “teachers online” website, there are several links. Click on the one written “Registration status”. It is the one that allows you to check your registration status as a teacher in Kenya.

Step 4: Enter your National ID or passport number

On clicking the “Registration status” link, you will be redirected to a new page that will prompt you to enter your ID or passport number. Carefully key in your national ID number or passport number depending on the one you used to register with TSC. Double-check to ensure you don’t miss a digit or leave a space in between. Sometimes people make such errors when doing things in a hurry.

At the bottom of the dialogue box are two options; “Search” and “Go Back Home”. Click on “Search.”.

Your full details will appear at the bottom left of the “CHECK REGISTRATION STATUS” page. The registration status will show whether you are an active TSC employee, as shown in the screenshot below.

It is important to know your TSC registration status. This will give you confidence that you are practicing teaching legally as per government regulations. This information is also important to private schools that wish to employ teachers in their schools. No Kenyan educational institution is allowed to engage a teacher that is not legally registered by the Teachers Service Commission. By following the procedure above, administrators can ensure that they employ duly registered teachers and not impostors.
