36 New Military Recruits Arrested At A Military Training School

New 36 Military recruits were on Sunday, December 19,  arrested at the Training School in Eldoret.

This is after they reportedly reported with forged calling letters.

Military police captured the individuals and turned them over to the National Police Service for questioning .

They will appear in court today on allegations of attempting to defraud the Kenya Defence Forces .

KDF has repeatedly cautioned the public to be careful of recruitment syndicates that fake calling letters or solicit money from recruiters.

“There is no such thing as substitution or linkages.” “Beware of conmen and women’s scams, and continue to expose them,” KDF said.

In April 2021, they arrested 55 youngsters while reporting for training at the Moi Barracks Recruits Training School using forged calling letters.

In February 2021, they arrested one recruit for reportedly inscribing the Ksh300 mark on his foot with the purpose of bribing officials.

These incidents have occurred in practically every recruitment effort.

In 2020, 71 adolescents pled guilty to forging of calling letters in front of Eldoret Principal Magistrate Naomi Wairimu.

The court sentenced them to six months in prison and a Sh20,000 fine apiece.

Political leaders have also openly blasted instances of corruption that have harmed recruitment initiatives.

In February 2021, Narok Senator Ledama OleKina bemoaned in Parliament that corrupt officials had infiltrated the military.

This is wasting the country’s resources by staging unlawful drives.

“Whenever there is a recruiting drive, people report they pay bribes ranging from Ksh300,000 to Ksh700,000.

The money is supposed to be used to enlist candidates into the military.”

“This is not only criminal, but it also poses a threat to our national security,” he said.

Meanwhile, the KDF is expected to call more candidates before the New Year.
